The Crafts Fair
REVIVE, a USAID-funded project, proudly announces the sponsorship of 'Crafts Fair 2005'. The Fair is organized by four Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that are currently receiving USAID assistance through REVIVE. The main objective of this event is to promote sales of handicrafts made by artisans affected by the December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and to provide them with market linkage opportunities. Despite the fact that the artisans have restarted production, they are finding it difficult to sell their products as a result of the decline in tourist arrivals.

Location of the Fair
Crafts Fair 2005 will be held at the Lighthouse Hotel on December 10th and 11th in Galle – an archaeological reserve proclaimed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Also known as the 'Walled City', Galle was taken over by Portuguese colonialists five centuries ago. Its location near the sea and natural habour attracted international traders - Dutch and the British, who later took over the city from the Portuguese.

The Fair will be held at the Cinnamon Room and the Galle Room of the Light House Hotel from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on both days. (Directions to Fair location)
